Our Story: Doerr Furniture - A New Orleans Staple

Doerr Furniture was founded by Charles L. Doerr, Sr. in 1938 and continues to serve its loyal customers throughout Southeast Louisiana and the Gulf South. We are now a fourth-generation family business, rooted in the history of New Orleans.

Charles’ daughter, Marilyn, married Lloyd Mutter in 1949, and the couple would go on to have five children.  Lloyd and Marilyn would eventually gain ownership of Doerr Furniture, where they instilled the importance of hard work and understanding of customer’s needs into their children. Starting in their teenage years until now, the five children, with the addition of grandchildren, help oversee the operations side of Doerr Furniture and its mattress affiliate, Bedding Plus.  To this day, the Mutter Family believes that the focus is on you, the customer, and strives to provide unparalleled customer service.

‍One Foot in History - One Foot Forward

David Mutter, President of Doerr Furniture, is leading the company to its next level of growth while continuing to uphold its core values. His vision is to bring in higher quality, Made-In-America furniture to keep with the traditional New Orleans style/vibe.

David is accompanied in his leadership of the family business by Julian Mutter, President Emeritus; Randy Mutter, Operations/Warehouse Manager; Melanie Giglio, Office Manager; Brett Mutter, Delivery Manager; Jamie Mutter, Director of In-House Design Services; Karen Duggan, Sr. Accounting Manager; and Amy Freese-Carter, Senior Director of Merchandising.
